Hi there! My name is Alex, and I grew up in a town nestled between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD. After high school, I ventured south to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education and my Master’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. My time at UTK was filled with incredible mentorships and hands-on experiences that shaped my passion for working with kids.
After graduate school, I moved to Memphis to join my now-husband, whom I met in college. I began my career as a special educator at Collierville High School, where I wore many hats over five fun years. As a teacher and case manager, I supported hundreds of students with varying needs and abilities. While I loved the work, I knew teaching wasn’t my final destination.
I’ve always been drawn to supporting challenging student behaviors, and it was one of my administrators and LBA extraordinaire, Rachel Gay, who inspired me to pursue my BCBA certification. I dove into coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, began accruing hours toward certification, and transitioned into a district-level behavior consultant role. This position gave me invaluable experience working with students of all ages and needs. I collaborated with teachers on Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, and I worked directly with students navigating challenging behaviors. At the same time, I interned with GBS under Rachel’s supervision, where I immersed myself in private practice and social skills group programming.
While I loved the impact I was able to make in the public school system, I was drawn to the potential for meaningful, one-on-one work with families. Now, as a licensed behavior analyst, I specialize in supporting children and teens diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, mood disorders, emotional/behavioral challenges, and more.
My favorite part of this work is helping kids find effective ways to communicate their wants and needs, reducing problem behaviors in the process. I’m also passionate about partnering with IEP teams, attending IEP/504 meetings, and advocating for families to ensure every child has the tools they need to succeed.
It’s a privilege to provide kids, parents, and schools with the strategies they need to see growth and progress across all settings. I love what I do and feel lucky to support families on their journeys!
